Children, Youth and Family Ministry

We offer enriching programs to support families of all kinds in their walk with Christ.

Sunday School

Sunday School meets September through June following the 9 a.m. service and ending at 10:45. We encourage family participation and believe that when kids and grown-ups dive into God’s big story together, a meaningful connection is made to carry the next generation through all their days.

Godly Play

            Ages 4 – 7

Godly Play is a Montessori-based curriculum that we offer for children 4 years-old through 2nd grade. It follows the pattern of Christian worship and our church seasonal calendar. Godly Play teaches children religious language through sacred stories, parables and liturgical action, as well as enhances their spiritual experience through wonder and responsive play.

StoryMakers Adventures

Ages 8 – 12

Children are guided through the greatest adventures of the Old and New Testament through “Adventure Zines” such as “Creation,” “Promised Land,” “Kings,” and “The Stars.” These Zines provide a fresh way for kids to engage with the Bible, connect in a group, and create. Each adventure Zine has about 12 weeks of materials that include historical context, fun facts, deeper thoughts, social-emotional tools, and lots of art! When we complete an adventure, the Zine goes home with each child as a memoir of their spiritual journey at Sunday School. We love how StoryMakers materials help children develop spiritually and invite them into God’s story in an unrestrictive way.

StoryMakers Teens

Ages 13 – 18

The Teen Forum meets during our Sunday School hour in the Cathedral undercroft. This program helps transition youth into their adult roles as members of a loving Christian community. Members engage in big Christian topics through StoryMakers “Teen Zines.” The “Teen Zines” use art and design to communicate biblical truth and ground students in foundational Christian beliefs. Each lesson recognizes the diversity and learning styles of the next generation and includes six entry points for teens to connect theologically and build biblical foundation.

Community Room

The community room is a place for adults to enjoy fellowship while their children are in class. We offer coffee and tea as well as discussion and book group opportunities.

Our teachers, guides and leaders

Dedicated and loving volunteers work together to spark imaginations and draw children into God’s story. All adults involved are safe-church certified and engage in regular training to keep spiritual offerings meaningful and fresh.

Curriculum: Godly Play

Godly Play is a curriculum based on the research of Dr. Jerome Berryman and influenced by the Montessori method of teaching. Children are invited into spiritual reflection and play through imaginative engagement with stories based on the Bible and the history of the Christian church.

Curriculum: StoryMakers NYC

StoryMakers is a not-for-profit organization that designs Gospel resources for kids and teens to bring the Bible to life. This student-centered, inquiry-based program draws children and teens in as “story-makers” to discover and participate in God’s redemptive narrative.

Additional offerings

We welcome all children, teens and their families to fully participate in the Trinity Cathedral community.

Welcoming space for young children

Families with infants and children age 3 and under are welcome to join us in the undercroft. The space includes a rocking chair, changing table, and extensive play opportunities for families to enjoy together.

Episcopal Youth Community – EYC

Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) for ages 13 to 18 meets monthly. Supervised by adult volunteers, this group focuses on social, service, and fundraising activities for teens.

Episcopal Youth Event

Every three years, in accordance with General Convention Resolution #1982-D079, the Episcopal Church convenes an international youth event so “that the energy of the youth of the Episcopal Church can continue to be utilized in active ministry as members of the Body of Christ.” Our entire congregation pulls together to raise money and ensure that any interested teen has the opportunity to attend this life-changing event.

Special Events

Beloved traditions include the Spaghetti Feed and Game Night, Advent Family Workshop, Christmas Eve Nativity Pageant, Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner, Easter Morning Egg Hunt, and End-of-the-Year Picnic.
