Many people work together to prepare for Sunday and weekday worship at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. The guilds described here provide invaluable support for the many aspects of worship. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact the Cathedral office at 775-329-4279.
- St. Martha’s Altar Guild: Members of St. Martha’s Altar Guild prepare the altar for Sunday and weekday worship in the Cathedral and the Bishop Lewis Chapel. Altar Guild members are also responsible for setting up the altar for funerals, weddings, and other special services. In addition, the Altar Guild coordinates periodic housekeeping days.
- Floral Guild: The Flower Guild selects and arranges the flowers to beautify the altar to the glory of God. Flowers may also be placed on the altar in memory or thanksgiving of someone special or in celebration of a special event. To sponsor flowers or greenery, please contact the Cathedral office.
- Ushers and Greeters: Ushers and Greeters are a big part of our worship ministry in welcoming members and visitors to services. They also receive offerings, count attendance, and guide people to receive communion. This is an excellent way to meet fellow parishioners and newcomers alike while being a significant part of the Sunday liturgy.
- Acolytes: Youth in the fifth grade through high school can serve at our Sunday services by leading the processions and assisting the clergy at the altar. This participation gives them a hands-on appreciation of our worship life. It is also a great way for young people to meet and connect with other parish youth. They are also encouraged to attend Cathedral classes and other events.
- Eucharistic Ministers: Eucharistic Ministers are members over 16 who serve the consecrated wine during Communion. They participate in all of the church services, including each Saturday, Sunday and weekday Eucharist, weddings, funerals, and additional celebrations and Feast Days. Most also serve as acolytes and as such they may also light and extinguish candles, carry the Cross or torches, ring bells, be thurifer (censor), banner bearer, or assist with setting the table at Eucharist.
- Lectors: Lectors are lay ministers who read the assigned Scripture at each Eucharist service, funerals, weddings and special occasions and feasts. They may read the Old Testament lesson, the New Testament lesson, or the Prayers of the People. When the Psalm is not sung, the Old Testament lector will lead the congregation in reading the Psalm. Bringing the Word of God to the people is an awesome and reverent ministry, and training sessions are held as needed.
- Daughters of the King: The Order of Daughters of the King St. Hildegard Chapter at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church. Members undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service. A Daughter pledges herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life for her parish.
